Business-as-usual (bau) returns a value stream to those who participate in it. Generally the cyclic nature of bau should mean it is effective and practiced so (comparatively) low stress and efficient. When faced with an adaptive challenge people, eco-systems and market places either adapt or perish – pressure to adapt is not something most people adopt spontaneously and gladly. They travel the Kubler-Ross Grief curve or the SARAH cycle through Dis-equilibrium = change, change = project.

For most people projects and their immediate aftermath are an unpleasant (and for the investor a highly uncertain) time between not needing to change and not needing to change.
