Pm_ngt-004 – New thinking rests on three principles:
- The timeframe of change is end2end™ of the investment
- The decision making architecture (dma) runs top2bottom™ of the management
- Capability development is layered and tailored to the duties of the whole organisational hierarchy so that it is relevant2reality™
End2end™ – For the investor rather than the supplier the timeframe of change is from first idea that arises during the steady state of business as usual until the restoration of steady state business as usual in a new operating mode. The traditional ‘project’ is just a fraction of the time, effort and uncertainty of the whole end2end journey.
Top2bottom™ – Wherever the seed of change germinates; whether from external or internal sources, whether response to threat or opportunity, strategic or tactical there are decisions to be made about direction, about realization and about transition. Debate to identify and then select options is required at every level. Instructions issued from a senior level often require timely later clarification when technical though reveals the ‘devil in the detail’. Delegation works best when escalation is working well. Both delegation and escalation benefit from clarity of the differences between accountability and responsibility.
Relevant2reality™ – To delegate instructions that start change and to create escalations that facilitate resolving issues requires common understanding of process, common familiarity with tools to allow expression of goals and solution development approaches. Every complimentary role in the organisation performs best when they share understanding with the people they rely on and who rely on them. Training in the successful management of change is a top2bottom™ and end2end™ undertaking if the results are to be relevant2reality™.
